Lamborghini Taps Base For Revuelto NFT Mint - "The Defiant"

Lamborghini is looking to ride the surging momentum behind Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2, for its latest web3 foray. On Oct. 28, Automobili Lamborghini announced the selection of Base as the blockchain network hosting mints for collectibles depicting Revuelto — the latest addition to Lamborghini’s roster of supercars. The collectibles will be launched as part of Fast ForWorld, the upcoming digital collectibles project developed in partnership with Motoverse, the motorsports-centric subsidiary of Animoca Brands, a blockchain gaming and NFT company. Fast ForWorld is set to launch on Nov. 7, initially comprising a web3 wallet supporting 3D visual features and interoperability capabilities. Motoverse said car collectibles released via Fast ForWorld will be playable across multiple game titles in the future. “The platform functions as a comprehensive digital hub where enthusiasts can showcase their vehicles, participate in exclusive experiences, and engage with the broader Lamborghini ecosystem,” Motoverse said. “Base has emerged as a premier platform for on-chain applications, making it an ideal foundation for Lamborghini's digital initiatives. Lambroghini embraces NFTs With “Lambo” — an abbreviation of “Lamborghini” — enduring as a meme and status symbol within the crypto community long-term, the Italian sports car manufacturer has sought to embrace web3 and NFTs in recent years. In January 2022, Lamborghini launched Space Time Memory, the company’s first official foray into NFTs. The project comprised a digital art collection of five photographs composed by the Swiss artist, Fabian Oefner, capturing physical parts from Lamborghini’s flagship Ultimae supercar. The collection celebrated a research project that sent components of the Ultimae to the International Space Station. The five artworks were accessible via QF codes engraved in physical objects and were auctioned off by Sotheby’s, a 258-year-old auction house that has hosted numerous NFT auctions. Lamborghini also sold a one-of-a-kind NFT alongside the final Aventador coupe produced by the automaker as part of an eight-month campaign of monthly NFT drops from August 2022. Base extends Layer 2 dominance The news comes as Base's dominance within Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem is growing, with Base now leading the sector by transaction throughput, DeFi total value locked (TVL), and active users. Based on a seven-day rolling average, Base accounted for 5.33 million or 61% of combined Layer 2 users and drove 6 million or one-third of combined L2 transactions, according to GrowThePie. On Oct. 11, Base overtook Arbitrum by the TVL of native DeFi protocol, with Base hosting nearly $2.6 billion compared to Arbitrum’s $2.35 billion, according to DeFi Llama. Arbitrum continues to lead by overall network TVL with $13.5 billion compared to Base’s $7.77 billamlion, according to L2beat.
