Base Activity Soars To New Highs Despite Onchain Summer Wrapping Up - "The Defiant"

Base’s second Onchain Summer campaign came to a close on Aug. 30 after successfully driving activity to the booming Layer 2 network. On Sept. 10, Base published a blog post reviewing the performance of its three-month campaign, noting that Onchain Summer garnered engagement from more than 2 million wallets — eight times as many as the previous year’s event. Users minted 24 million on-chain assets, driving more than $5 million in revenue for participating developers. “Onchain Summer was a celebration and showcase of on-chain music, art, food, gaming, and more — and after an incredible three months, the sun is setting and it has come to a close,” Base said. “The event highlighted how on-chain puts ownership back in the hands of creators.” A wide variety of both web3-native and mainstream companies participated in Onchain Summer, with Atari launching classic arcade games on the network, Team Liquid launching an esports tournament with prize money paid out on-chain, and Doodles facilitating first access to music and collectibles from popular musicians. Buildathon In June, Base’s Buildathon attracted in excess of 7,500 builders and 1,250 projects, with $200,000 worth of bounties and 300 ETH up for grabs. “The Buildathon showcased how diverse the on-chain economy is, with builders creating innovative projects across commerce, payments, gaming, creator, social, and more,” Base said. Prominent web2 firms participated in the event, with Stripe, the payments provider, and Shopify, the online commerce platform, joining web3 mainstays including Farcaster, Aerodrome, Synthetic, and Nouns. Base also highlighted the project For The Children: July 2024, which brought together more than 30 artists to collaborate on digital art in an initiative to raise money for disadvantaged kids living in the Dominican Republic. Base activity tags new highs after Onchain Summer Base’s on-chain activity is pushing into new all-time highs despite Onchain Summer wrapping up on Aug. 30. Data from GrowThePie shows record highs of 1.17 million daily Base users executing 4.41 million transactions over the past 24 hours — marking increases of 28% and 2.67% since Aug. 30. Roughly 5.23 million wallets also interacted with Base over the past seven days, comprising a 58.3% increase compared to the previous week. A notably small number of Base’s users did not interact with any other Layer 2 networks with only 5.1%, compared to 19.6% of Arbitrum users, 40% of OP Mainnet users, and 56.7% of ZKsync Era users.
