Peter McCormack, the host of the ‘What Bitcoin Did’ podcast, acknowledged that some Bitcoiners tend to promote the idea of a zero-tax voluntary society as an appealing concept. However, he quickly pointed out that he finds such aspirations “childish and naive.”

In a year-old interview, Robert Breedlove, a well-known Bitcoin enthusiast and a self-proclaimed freedom maximalist, expressed the notion of a voluntary society with zero taxes, an idea that resonates with many libertarians.

However, in McCormack’s view, a zero-tax society may be desirable in theory, but it lacks grounding in reality. He argued that a 50% tax rate does not equate to being a “50% slave,” as some suggest, but rather implies a higher tax burden and the possibility of an inefficient government.

The podcaster emphasized that while he understands the fundamental desire for reduced taxation, he believes that many enthusiasts fail to grasp the practical implications of their ideas. McCormack mentioned that radical notions should be subject to scrutiny and questioned to ensure their viability.

One intriguing observation McCormack made was the viability of libertarian counties, claiming they contradict the very essence of libertarianism. He expressed skepticism, stating:

“There are no libertarian counties, why? Because it requires the accumulation of power which is antithetical to libertarian principles.”
